My First Boudoir Session

I have always been really hesitant to offer boudoir sessions. I think part of that, a big part of that has been my own insecurities and thinking I don't yet have the skills to offer such a delicate and important service. I used to assist an INCREDIBLE boudoir photographer (Hi Jamie!) and I have witnessed first hand the amount of time and care that goes into each shoot. The need to please can be so overwhelming for me when it comes to boudoir so I just wasn't quite ready.

In comes my gorgeous, fearless, creative cousin, Sarah. It's not the first time she's been in front of my camera but this was definitely the most vulnerable either one of us has ever felt going into a shoot. I had seen a lot of milk bath sessions with babies and small children and wanted to test it out with a boudoir flare. When I went to Sarah with my idea, she couldn't have been more supportive and saw my vision perfectly. We went and got WAY too many flowers (Im an over-preparer) and a gallon of milk and headed home to our tiny upstairs bathroom to see what magic we could create, oh holy shit did we create magic!

This session did so much more for both of us than either one of us could've dreamed. It built up my confidence and showed me that I do have the compassion, thoughtfulness and ability to be able to handle these kind of sessions, and it gave Sarah tangible proof that she is drop dead gorgeous when she needed it the most. I couldn't be more grateful that she trusted me enough to allow me to shoot her in this setting.

These kind of sessions can be so important. It's not about taking sexy pictures for anyone in particular, although they make great gifts for spouses, it's about taking pictures that make you feel beautiful for YOURSELF. Being able to have that kind of confidence is intangible and empowering and boudoir sessions can give you all of that.

I can't wait to see where this newfound confidence takes me and I am looking forward to seeing how this skillset develops and what beautiful ideas we come up with next!
